Get to Know the Candidate


M. Luther Hill was born on March 8, 1962, the ninth of ten children, to Reverend and Mrs. Eddie Hill, Sr. in Montgomery, Alabama. Reverend Eddie Hill, a builder by trade, instilled in his children the value of having a trade as well as profession. M. Luther Hill learned the skills of housing construction early in life under the guidance of his father and brothers.

He married the former Diana Lynn Davis, the first of four children of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eugene Davis of New Market, Tennessee. He is the father of two daughters, MeGan Yvonne Hill and Jennifer Nicole Hill, and grandfather to a grandson, Travion. 



M. Luther Hill attended George Washington Carver Senior High in Montgomery, Alabama and graduated in 1980.  Following high school, he entered

Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee on a football scholarship. Interests included writing music and performing with various choirs and musical groups.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1986. 

In 1986, M. Luther Hill continued to pursue academic excellence and enrolled in Hood Theological Seminary in answer to the call to ministry.  While pursuing a Masters of Divinity, he was selected as treasurer of the Hood Theological Seminary Student Government Association.   He graduated from Hood Theological Seminary in 1989.

M. Luther Hill furthered his academic achievements by pursuing and obtaining a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.  He graduated from East Tennessee State in 1996. He later  received a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in 2010.


The Lord called M. Luther Hill to preach over 40 years ago. He entered the Christian ministry and was ordained in 1983 in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the church of his youth and the church that he loves.  The A. M. E. Zion Church has trained him, educated him, and has provided many memorable experiences throughout his career in ministry.


M. Luther Hill has pastored nine wonderful congregations in six diverse conferences. His tenure as a Pastor has afforded him the opportunity to serve seven Bishops; six of whom he served as Chief of Protocol. He believes that it is important to have an ecumenical presence, pastoral compassion, and to lead others with humility. As a dedicated leader with a heart for God demonstrated through his love for people, he has faithfully taught, trained, mentored, preached, and modeled Christian compassion. He has provided Godly direction guiding people to be intentionally kind and actively concerned with the Christian growth of themselves and others.
